Mr. Mandel has been engaged in government and nonprofit work for over 20 years, including more than 12 years as the Community Development Director for Couleecap, a Community Action Agency in western Wisconsin. Today he is the principal consultant for Building Mighty Communities, a consulting firm he founded. Over his career in community development, he expanded Couleecap’s housing work (including a 1,600% increase in housing rehabilitation work), developed more than $10 million in housing, and formed Wisconsin’s only rural community land trust. In 2013, Mr. Mandel added economic development to his portfolio, and over the next four years Couleecap increased its new business startup production by 500%. He serves on the boards of directors for the La Crosse Neighborhood Development Corporation and the Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development, and also served as Chairperson for the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank’s Great Lakes Advisory Council.
